Properly storing your skis for the summer:

With the right care, your skis or snowboard will stay in top condition even after the season. In this guide, we show you step by step how to optimally prepare the base, edges, and storage – for maximum performance next winter.

Cleaning the ski base

Before storing your skis or snowboards, it is important to thoroughly clean the base. Remove dirt, snow, wax, and other residues from the bases. The most effective way to do this is with a special bronze base brush, like the Speed Bronze base brush. Bronze brushes are ideal for removing dirt, old wax residues and deposits deep from the base structure and simultaneously exposing it again.
Tip: For even faster and more comfortable cleaning, you can alternatively use rotor brushes.

Additionally, you can wipe the base with a cleaning agent afterwards. Make sure not to use aggressive cleaners, as they can damage the surface.
Cleaning agents like the Wax-EX from raze-cat are specially developed for cleaning ski and snowboard bases and are the ideal choice for gentle base cleaning.

Edge protection

The edges of your skis or snowboards are particularly prone to rust. To prevent rust formation, you should thoroughly dry and clean the edges before storage. If some rust has already formed on the edge, a edge grinding rubber is suitable for cleaning and derusting the edges. Afterwards, we recommend lightly regrinding the edges to remove deposits.

Waxing

Wax protection is essential to protect the base from drying out over the summer. Wax your equipment before storage to keep it in the best condition. You have two options:

1. Simple & quick:
Apply liquid wax – ideal for those who want minimal effort.

2. Classic & effective:
Apply hot wax and do not scrape it off – this way the base stays optimally protected.

Important:
Be sure to remove the wax from the edges with a scraper blade, as otherwise they can start to rust.

Storage

The proper storage of your skis or snowboards is crucial to keep them in good condition. Store your skis in a:

  • dry and cool place
  • away from direct sunlight and moisture
  • without extreme temperature fluctuations, as these can negatively affect the materials.

Basements or living spaces are ideal – attics or damp garages are less suitable.

In short:

Should you wax skis in summer?
Yes, the wax protects the base from drying out and preserves glide properties.

Why should wax be removed from the edges?
Wax on the edges can trap moisture and thus promote rust formation. Therefore, the edges should always be cleanly scraped before storage.

Where is the best place to store skis?
In dry rooms with stable temperature, e.g., basement or apartment.

Conclusion: The right care and storage of your skis and snowboards is the key to extending their lifespan and maintaining their performance. Through regular cleaning, applying wax, and protecting the edges, you can ensure your equipment stays in optimal shape. Also, pay attention to proper storage in a suitable place to protect them from damage. With these tips, you will get your skis and snowboards safely through the summer months, secure their durability, and be able to fully enjoy them again next winter season.
